Hiking near Corvallis, Oregon

Walkabout this Mid-Willamette Valley town and head to the hills for views of the city, Cascade volcanoes, and the peaks of the Coast Range. There are several city and county parks close to the university and downtown, easily accessible from all parts of the city. There are no fees or permits required for these short day hikes that will take you to new heights.

Walking trails zig and zag all over this 284 acre park. A 1.5 mile paved path is ideal for walkers, bikers, and even roller bladers. Climb about 300 feet to the summit to view the city and farmland below. There is even an off-leash area for your dog and an open air barn that makes a great picnic destination.

There are a few ways to hike Mary's Peak. You can drive to the top and walk a few hundred feet to the summit, or you can start down below and take the east or north ridge trails which are considerably longer. Once near the top, walk the meadow-edge loop to see wildflowers and wildlife in the spring. Marys Peak tops out at 4097 feet.

The moderate hike at this park on the north side of the city will take you about 1.5 miles up to the top. From there, you can see Mt. Jefferson and the three sisters on a clear day. Climb the trails at Chip Ross and connect with the network of hiking trails through Timberhill. If you are new to the area, bring a map so you won't get lost.
